Spaghetti Donuts

Why not have some fun with a twist on the traditional sweet donut and make something savory!  What I love most about these donuts, apart from them just being fun to eat is the crispy top from baking spaghetti.

Savory donuts that you can pick up and eat as a snack or dish serve with a pour over of marinara sauce and a little more parmesan for a meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 sprays cooking spray 
  • 4oz uncooked whole-wheat spaghetti
  • 2 cups fresh spinach 
  • Jar of fat-free marinara sauce
  • 2 tbsp grated parmesan 
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • Red pepper flakes

While the recipe I am sharing is a Weightwatchers recipe, you can substitute the pasta, sauce or even add more cheese for a more substantial snack or meal.  Kids will love not only making this with you but also eating them.  I know I am far from being a kid and I think they are fabulous!  

 

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
  2. Lightly coat a 6-slot donut plan with non-stick spray
  3. Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Just before draining, stir spinach into moiling water.  Drain spaghetti mixture
  4. In a medium bowl, whish together marianara sauce, 2 tablespoons of parmesan, salt and egg.  Add spaghetti mixture and toss well to combine
  5. Evenly divide spaghetti mixture into prepared pan. spoon any remaining liquid evenly inot each donut slot
  6. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes
  7. Combine remaining 1 tablespoon of parmesan and pepper
  8. Turn out spaghetti donuts onto a plate and sprinke with cheese mixture
