Still quite the place to be it would seem! Towne stands out in the Boston restaurant scene as a desirable restaurant to frequent whether for casual cocktails, bar bites or an indulgent sit down dinner. Last Saturday I stopped by Towne at the main (front) bar for couple of fun cocktails with Stacey before her husband joined us for dinner. There is definitely a cool and fun vibe to Towne with clientele from the Boston elite to the trendsetters to the game watchers. The place is welcoming, spacious and offers great food that will be enjoyable to anyone’s palate. When you first walk in, you are in a large space with a huge bar in the center of the room surrounded by high top tables – a very casual feel. We stayed there for a while and enjoyed some drinks. I ordered the “Gypsy Dancer”… crop cucumber Vodka, aloe & honey shaken, served up with honey crystal rim. It was so delicious and refreshing and a little strong but a perfect to start the evening. I can only do one martini.
Walking through to the downstairs restaurant, and where we eventually were seated, you are greeted by friendly hosts and directed through to the oppulent bar and restaurant. There is a huge, saucy mural across the back wall and floor to ceiling windows on one side that lead out onto an outside dining patio. Our table was to one side and offered us a ringside view of the downstairs restaurant.
The new Fall menu offers lots of dishes I would love to try this season. For this particular evening we started with the East Coast Oysters and the Fois Gras.
The oysters were briny and wonderful and the dipping sauce was fantastic – I only wish I had written down what it was. I normally eat my oysters without anything at all but this sauce was amazing. It was so good I tried it with my bread as well.
Our evening was enjoyed even more with a wonderful, sharp and crisp bottle of Sancerre that was quite superb with our appetizers.
Eric and Stacey enjoyed the Fois Gras, which they said was good but just not a lot of it. Lots of “accoutrements” but not enough Fois.
For my main I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass; creamy, buttery, flaky bites of white fish with tasty pea tendrils. A delicious dish.
Eric enjoyed the Duck Crisp. Crispy in the right places and a wonderful flan on the side. Stacey had the Peking Chicken, which she said was super. The sauce was delicious and the chicken was well cooked and not dry, however she would have loved some more sweet mashed potatoes as they were fantastic!
Our evening ended with the cheese plate of small portions of seasonal cheeses and doughy flat bread. I love ending my dining with a cheese plate as opposed to dessert. Eric also ordered the cotton candy – too sweet for my tooth but both of my dining partners seemed to enjoy it very much.
Towne has a gorgeous outside seating area that diners enjoyed on this past balmy Saturday evening. Get there quick if you still want to enjoy dining al fresco.
With the super atmosphere, impeccable service, consistently amazing food and good dining companions, I could not have asked for a better evening. I am a big fan of Towne Stove Top and Spirits!
I love Towne – great drinks, great food, great ambiance. And I like the cotton candy there too (as you know I have a huge sweet tooth!)
I actually enjoyed reading through this posting. Many thanks.
