Four Seasons High Tea

This past Saturday called for an impromptu trip to the Four Seasons for Tea with a Brit friend. Luckily, even without a reservation they were able to accommodate us in the Bristol Lounge.

Comfortably seated on the soft sofa near the fireplace, we settled back and took a quick look at the menu. I was already excited about the selection of cakes and sandwiches on offer for our afternoon. The Afternoon Tea menu offers Scones and Tea Bread, Strawberry Jam, Lemon Curd and Devonshire Cream, a Selection of Tea Sandwiches and Pastries and is served with a Pot of Brewed Tea of Choice.

As with all Four Seasons, service is impeccable. Our pinstriped Tea suited waiter efficiently organized our little coffee table to accommodate our order of Afternoon Tea with English Breakfast and glass of Veuve Cliquot for both of us.

Starting with a little sparkling number, we clinked glasses and giggled with excitement at being a little too decadent with this unplanned trip. Bubbles are always fun, especially at 3pm in the afternoon.

When I do Afternoon Tea I like everyone to eat the same thing at the same time so we can talk about it. A little silly but oh so fun. We started with spongy, sticky lemon and poppy seed bread and then moved on to one of my favorites of cranberry scone with Devonshire cream and strawberry sweet jam. Lots and lots of cream and jam. So delicious, So British!

Moving on to the little tea sandwiches of smoked salmon, chicken salad and cream cheese and cucumber. Perfect two-bite sized sandwiches of tasty fresh ingredients. I was a big fan of the cream cheese and cucumber.

We took our time while we drank our hot and strong fresh brewed tea, reminiscent of my home country of England where we love our strong teas. I was very happy.

Finally, we ended our afternoon with cakes of lemon tart and chocolate éclairs. Saving the Chocolate Éclair to the very last was exactly the right thing to do. Oozing with vanilla cream and topped with just the right amount of chocolate this was the pies de resistance of our Afternoon Tea.

Delicious High Tea

The Bristol Lounge was filled with young teenagers celebrating birthdays, parents on a delicious treat of an afternoon and friends like me and Andy just enjoying ourselves. What an absolutely lovely afternoon. Definitely worth a trip for a celebration or just a weekend treat.

Although we did not have a reservation, I would highly recommend making a one if you want to go for tea as they tend to make everything to the amount of reservations they get.
