Lauren is in town… and this means not one but many things.  Firstly, my dearest friend is here and that makes me very happy!  Secondly, thirdly and fourthly, we will eat like queens, we will put on a number of el bees and we will laugh and reminisce, oh and of course, we will drink some wine.

We started our week long adventure of over indulgence at brunch with a former colleague and dear friend, Casey.  Brunch was at my local, namely Local 149 First timer for brunch at this new newish establishment, and I was quite excited.

We arrived right at opening time of 11.00am to an empty but welcoming restaurant where we were seated at a high top while we waited for Casey.  Local is an open plan restaurant with mixed seating from booths to little tables to high tops that surrounds a large bar in the middle, with huge windows that add lots of wonderful natural light to the place.

The menu looked creative, fun and interesting.  It took us so long to make a decision.  Coffee was in order!  The coffee was okay, however, as a bit of a dark roast snob, it could be improved for serious brunchers.  It did not stop me having more though.

After about 20 minutes of looking at the (regularly changing) menu, I settled on the Breakfast Taco, while Lauren and Casey went for the Lobster MacMuffin.  More people came in for brunch and we settled in for a mid morning of lovely catch-up with friends.

My Breakfast Taco was truly delicious and quite different from my usual Eggs Bennie.   Fluffy scrambled egg with crumbled sausage, cheese and a sneaky kick of spicy salsa with a topping of avocado and cress – wrapped in a soft shell taco, which I didn’t really need.  I tried the first one wrapped in a taco but it just fell apart and was messy.  This is not to say it was not good, quite the opposite; it was just impossible to pick up.  A scrumptious, yummy, quite different breakfast.

Lauren is not a big egg person so her lobster muffin was a little too much but she did like it.  To me, an egg lover, it looked fabulous!  Casey stated, and I quote “I really liked mine but there wasn’t enough lobster. I kinda pictured it being more like an Eggs Benedict with the lobster being a separate layer.  Instead it was actually with the egg so you couldn’t taste it.  That said, it was delicious once I changed my expectations .”

To me, brunch should be relaxing, a bit lazy, leisurely and fun and that is what we got.
