Last week I was invited to a media opening of a new modern Irish kitchen and bar called Waxy’s. Located just one stop passed Kenmore on the Green Line on Beacon Street this brand new restaurant welcome’s its customer’s into an Irish tavern with a more New England than Irish menu, hand-crafted cocktails and a bit of Irish charm. According to the manager the beautiful dark wood is imported directly from Ireland to give it a real flavor from the homeland.
The restaurant is one big square, which surrounds the bar in the center with booths and high tops. There are some semi-private dining nooks with comfy chesterfield seating and in the warmer months they have a little patio for enjoying your cocktails and dinner outside.
All the staff are overtly friendly but in a genuine way. They seem excited about what has been created here and engage the customers in social chatter.
While we didn’t get a full taste of the menu, we did enjoy what they had on offer. I have to say they are onto a comfort food winner with bacon infused clam chowder (apparently gluten free), juicy pulled pork sliders and “life changing” wings tossed in a sea salt caramel glaze. One of the waiters was literally having a moment right in front of us describing how “life changing” they are and I have to say they are terrifically tasty. My friend, Kathleen may have had about 10 of them.
All in all, we had a really entertaining and tasty evening at the opening of this new addition to Brookline.
While I am looking forward to going back to really try out their menu, I do hope they add some true Irish items to it, perhaps an all day full cooked Irish breakfast :).
I was here too! Sorry to miss you. That clam chowder was my favorite! the wings were good….though I do think the waiter hyped them up a bit too much 😉
So sorry I missed you. Hope all is great.
