I have said before that I rarely get it right when it comes to Pinot Noir so I tend to avoid it on wine menus, especially if I don’t recognize any labels.  That said, I am always open to recommendations from anyone regarding any wine at all.  Seriously any wine :).  Go ahead and give me a recommendation.

A friend had given me a wonderful wine, which was a Highlands Chardonnay 2012, Morgan Winery, Santa Lucia Highlands as a thank you gift.  I immediately loved this wine so obviously wanted to buy more.  While searching the wine aisles of Wholefoods with no luck, I asked one of their staff to find it for me, which he very kindly did while also raving about their Pinot Noir and recommended I should try it.  Why not I thought?  I only went to Wholefoods for one bottle of wine and left with six!

Morgan Pinot Noir 2013

Morgan Twelve Clones Pinot Noir 2013, Santa Lucia Highlands

The Morgan Twelve Clones Pinot is a light to medium claret color.  It is vibrantly fruity on the nose with aromas of sweet cherries, hints of liquorice and surprisingly cassis, which I usually relate to heavier reds like Cabs.  There is brilliant wallop of fruits on the initial taste, which seems to last forever and lingers into smooth milk chocolate finish – quite powerful for a Pinot Noir.  This Pinot is actually light but ridiculously lively in summer fruity, slightly sweet tastes.  I can’t even tell you how wonderful this wine pairs with the stress of putting together a huge conference.  It worked wonders for my not so sunny disposition while on an 8pm conference call.

I did end up pairing it with leftover turkey lasagna and it wasn’t half bad.

If you like fruity, lighter reds this one if fabulous!
