Do you ever those memories of taste that cast you mind back to a particular moment in time?
I have just that memory of tasting a wine I had in Rome, Italy. While I have never been able to find that particular wine or for that matter even remember it, I have been trying to find something similar since that moment in 2013. This brings me to a favoloso, Italian for fabulous find, the Inama Vin Soave, Soave Classico 2019.
A clean slightly floral aroma with elements of a new harvest and spring flowers at first sniff. It’s the beginning of a new year, a freezing cold Chicago and a continuing pandemic. This wine tantalizes me with a future of hope and new beginnings as trite as that may sound. Let’s be honest we all need some trite right now. The first taste is like a piano hitting that first sharp key about to start the beginning of a melody you don’t quite get… but you know you know it. What follows for me is a memory of stopping at a café in Rome for a slice of very thin crust pizza and a glass of Soave. I am cast back to that memory and in love with this wine. Minerally with tastes of smooth cantaloupe and peach abound. It’s silly I know but I so need memories of past travels and a hope of future travels and places I have traveled to.
Let’s be clear, even if it’s hopes of the next glass right now I am quite happy.
This is very special everyday wine, which is an easy find at any Binnys or local wine store.
