A weekend trip to Seattle resulted in a fabulous find following a fun wine tasting on the quaint Bainbridge Island.
The little tiny tasting room for Eagle Harbor Wine Company surprised and delighted me. Not only because we were the only ones there and enjoyed the company of the tasting room associate, I totally enjoyed every one of the wines we tasted so of course I purchased six bottles.
Eagle Harbor Goldfinch, Columbia valley Washington 2015
The Eagle Harbor Goldfinch is a Viogner/Chardonnay blend and is bitingly sharp on the nose when you first pour into the glass. Giving it a moment to settle, aromas of nectarine and peach fill the glass and then settling even more into a clean and crisp sense of late summer. If you are familiar with the Viogner grape of honeysuckle and mango, this is what is recognizable instantly followed by an edgy taste of Granny Smith apple and mild cantaloupe. This wine is refreshingly different and not reminiscent of a Chardonnay blend at all. There is a hint of fizz with a tickle of spice, which you expect to linger but it turns into a long mild finish that beckons more sips, which as you know I am always happy to oblige. While I feel this wine would be fabulous for that end of Summer, wrapped in your cardigan porch wine, it was definitely worthy of staying in on a Saturday night watching the new Star Trek movie. A fantastic movie and great wine paired well with a simple tuna and pasta salad and the delicious Chris Pine.
