Chocolate Shop Wine

Pop Quiz:  What’s better than chocolate?  Answer… nothing, except if you add it to wine!  WHAT DID I SAY?  Oh yes, I am not kidding…  Chocolate Wine.  Who would have thought?  Well, someone did and that is the people from Chocolate Shop Wine.

A few weeks ago the awesome folks at ThirstyGirl.com invited me to do a virtual wine tasting for Chocolate Shop Wine.  How could I say no?  Of course, even before I had finished reading the email, I responded with a “yes, of course!”  A week later a box from Chocolate Shop Wines turned up at my office with not one but two complimentary bottles of the Chocolate Red Wine to do a tasting.  Thank you!

The wine tasting was to be done over TweetChat at 8.00pm last Wednesday.  I still consider myself relatively new to Twitter so having to do this tasting and sharing my thoughts over TweetChat was like doing a wine tasting at a Formula 1 race.  I honestly could not keep up.  It was just crazy fun!  Taste type, taste type.  Even more fun reading other people’s tweets.

My friend Stacey came over to help me with the really tough task of tasting and sharing what we thought.  It was 8.01pm and the tweets were coming in quick and fast.  I felt I needed to join in and start tweeting myself!

After opening the bottle we were immediately overwhelmed with the aroma of chocolate and dark cherries.  How tantalizing!  First sip was surprising as I didn’t expect such a rich chocolate taste.  The wine had a very sweet aroma but was less sweet on the palate.  There were many tweets coming in to say it is better chilled so we quickly popped the bottle into the fridge to taste the difference.  I preferred it slightly chilled.  A nice cool sweetness with a wine that lingers on the palate and leads to a very nice finish.

There was a comment about enjoying this wine with duck breast and using it as a reduction.  I was thinking “wow” and “yes.”

We did try the wine with one of the Almond Crisps I made.  Great cookies and wine but sweet and sweet was a little too much.  We also tried it with an Almond Joy Dessert with Ice Cream we had picked up earlier up from Local 149.  This pairing was slightly better as it wasn’t as sweet.   Ultimately, both Stacey and I netted out on how amazing this wine would be with a really good strong blue cheese for dessert.  Or any strong cheese for that matter. Cheese, Chocolate and Wine – it just sounds good!

What an absolutely fun and super experience for me.
