Rosés are the ultimate summer wine. From the flirty pink color to the summer fruit aromas to the fun infusion of happiness each sip gives you! They just bring joy. What brings even more joy is how many affordable Rosés are out there these days.
I decided to take on the very serious job of tasting some just for my readers. I really am so selfless sometimes. While I do have an extensive list of favorites, here are five of my current go to’s, all of which you will find in your local wine store or at your favorite restaurant.
Caves D’esclans Whispering Angel Rosé 2013
I discovered Whispering Angel at the Boston Wine Expo a few years ago and have been drinking it ever since. This absolutely delightful Rosé charms and satisfies the tastebuds with under-ripe strawberries and a bone dry finish. Whispering Angel is now seen everywhere on restaurant wine menus around the city by the glass, which is great as one of these restaurants, Smith & Wollensky’s is in my office building so a glass is not that far away. Whispering Angel is seriously drinkable so be careful. Or just make sure your friends put you in an Uber. Retails at $20.
Caves D’esclans Whispering Angel Rosé
New to the scene is the Gris Blanc from Gérard Bertrand, which comes in a modern labeled bottle. I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy it as I thought it was one of those new fad wines, which tempt people more with marketing than taste. How wrong could I have been? This absurdly affordable wine is simply fabulous and made for entertaining and laughing with friends on the patio or condo deck. Dry, clean and simply fun. I have been enjoying this wine a lot recently at Sam’s at Louis. Retails at $13.
Anthony Nappa Anomaly Pinot Noir 2011
I cannot tell a lie, I am a little obsessed with this white Pinot Noir. I have been drinking it for about 3 years and I always gravitate towards the 2011 when I can find it. I am far more partial to dry Rosés and I found the 2012 a little sweeter – not that I would turn it down. This Pinot is a delicate color of pale red rose petals. Aromas of flowers, mostly roses at first sniff followed by a freshness of sweet red grapes. On the palate there is a sharpness that bites on the tongue with tangs of grapefruit that is so fresh, it is almost like having a glass of crisp flavored water. It is a refreshing wine, which makes you want to gulp it like juice. At first you think it’s sweet, but that is fleeting. It is so smooth and clean with a lovely distinct pointed long and dry finish of ripe cherries. LOVE this wine! Retails at $20.

Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Rosé 2013
The Domaine Vacheron Sancerre is a little more of a treat and celebratory Rosé. Made with 100% Pinot Noir the Vacheron Sancerre has a light peachy color and a clean fragrant bouquet of fresh summer flowers. Immediately sharp with a slight zing on the tip of the tongue and an expressive tartness. Tastes of peach and pear with edges of citrus abound in this wonderful Sancerre. This is a thrilling summer Rosé that surprises all your senses and worthy of the high praise. Bring over to a friends house and they will love you forever! Retails at $30.
Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Rosé 2013
Lucien Albrecht Crémant d’Alsace Brut Rosé NV
I thought I would end this selection with a bit of bubbly as I know some of you out there love your sparkles and I have to say I am a bit partial to them myself, especially Brut. This 100% Pinot Noir wine is made using the Champagne method and has aromas of rose petals and apricots. On the palate the light bubbles refresh with tastes of golden delicious apple and nectarine. It’s quite an amusing wine, which makes your lips curl up with a secretative smile. This wine is perfect for a before dinner aperitif. Retails at $22.
