Located on the architecturally stunning Country Club Plaza Kansas City, MO, Classic Cup Sidewalk Café is a place KCers flock to at the weekends for brunch. It definitely lends itself to large groups looking to enjoy the outdoors, superb coffee and outstanding brunch choices and I, for one was looking forward to going back along with eight others for a relaxing Sunday morning of good food and strong coffee.
Classic Cup offers seating on the sidewalk where you can watch the shoppers pass by, inside cozy restaurant with open windows and an outside large patio. After a short wait we were lucky enough to be seated outside on the patio. The day was glorious and perfect for the leisurely bruncher. Everyone was smiling and laughter could be heard from every table.
Classic Cup boasts a superb brunch of dishes such as Eggs Benedict, Sausage & Grits, French Toast and more lunch-type options of Pasta and Burgers. Also, famous for its own coffee I ordered my first cup of strong bitter goodness and enjoyed a number of refills.
For my brunch I ordered the Pacific Northwest Eggs Benedict – always the creature of habit. While it was quite delicious with a nicely salted and creamy hollandaise, I do like my eggs runny, which these were not. It didn’t stop me enjoying my dish with fresh English muffins and a side of fried potatoes made just right for ketchup dunking but runny eggs would have made it perfect for me and not just good.
I did try Lauren’s Grits and Grillades. I have never tried grits before and I have to say I was a bit of a fan. Not unlike polenta, the grits were made with a slightly biting cheese, which made it hard to stop eating it. I may have to try grits for myself in the future.
If you are ever in Kansas City, MO make sure you take a trip to the Plaza to enjoy the shopping and stop by the Classic Cup Cafe for brunch, lunch or dinner. You will not be disappointed.
