Kathleen was hankering for a burger the other day, which made me immediately think of 5 Napkin Burger This is not because I have been, or that I even like burgers… I don’t eat red meat.  It is because I have heard so many people rave about this relative newcomer to Boston.

So, braving the blistering heat on Saturday, we ventured over to the Prudential area of Huntington Ave to try it out.

5 Napkin is a huge old-fashioned looking restaurant with Victorian subway tiled walls, huge chalkboards and actually quite scary looking lighting, which comprises of a large metal frame that runs around the ceiling with meat hooks and lighting hanging down.  A little disturbing.

Amongst the Saturday lunchtime clientele of families and teenagers and college kids, there was also a little bit of famous people spotting with John Henry and ZZ Tops (one of them), well it looked like ZZ Tops – old guy with a very long beard, sunglasses and carrying a guitar.  Okay, it may not have been him but it was most definitely John Henry!

The menu offers so much more than burgers, much to my happiness.  It offers Sushi, amazing soups and super looking salads.  As well as a great looking selection of Shakes, which I will have to try at some point.

We were seated in the bar area and I have to say we waited quite some time before our waiter came over to us.  He was not the most efficient of waitstaff.  We ordered some sodas and again sat there for a while before they were brought over to us.  The place was not too packed so I didn’t see a reason.  I was in a good mood so didn’t mind too much.  Our drinks finally arrived and we ordered our lunch of Italian Turkey Burger – melted mozzarella, spicy tomato sauce, vinegar peppers, sesame egg roll with no vinegar peppers for me and the Cheeseburger – 10 oz. beef, choice of cheese on a soft white roll with cheddar for Kathleen.  We also ordered a side of French Fries and Kathleen ordered an additional side of House Cured Pickles – yuck.   Sorry to pickle lovers but they make me gag.

Our food came out and they got Kathleen’s wrong – woops.  They took her plate away and the manager came over with an apology.  Our waiter never once apologized.  That aside, my Turkey Burger was truly truly outstanding.  I am going to put it out there that this was the most incredible Turkey Burger I have every tasted – quite a statement right!  It was huge, meaty, succulent, mildly spicy sauce all over your face good!  Yes that good!  It was like an Italian meatloaf on a bun.  The fries were perfect – crispy on the outside and soft and mushy on the inside – fried to perfection.

Kathleen thoroughly enjoyed her Cheeseburger and she devoured the pickles.  Our food was amazingly good.  The service was a little slow but it was lunch so we didn’t mind as much as normally would have.  Overall, I kind of liked this new addition to our Boston restaurant scene.
