Okay my wine drinking friends have I got a fun treat for you.  Many of my UK friends are already in the know of this fabulous little affordable white wine, so for those that are not familiar with it, and for my US wine buddies, I would like to introduce you to the Picpoul de Pinet.

The Picpoul is an older varietal of wine from the South of France and is reminiscent of a sharp crisp Spanish Albariño.  In researching the grape, a little more, I have found it is known by different names. In the Loire Valley, it is known as Folle Blanche, and while not many producers bottle the grape, it is purchased by many others in the South of France for blending purposes.  That said, you can pretty much find this wine anywhere and here is the best part, it sells for around $11-$22.

I want to warn you prior to ‘tasting’ this wine… a taste will not be enough. This is a drinking wine and while I will not admit to this personally, it can be gone before the end of a fourth episode of The Good Wife, which I am watching again. I honestly forgot how good this show is.  I am now in for the entire seven seasons and I am not sure I have enough Picpoul!!  Okay back to this particular Picpoul de Pinet.

If you like citrusy, clean and sharp whites read on.

The color of almost fall straw with just a tinge of yellow.  The first sniff brings a vibrant aroma of class and expense with hints of zesty citrus fruits leaning a lot towards grapefruit. On the palate, this wine has a lovely balance perfect for those heightened anxiety moments in The Good Wine, whoops The Good Wife 😊.  The Picpoul de Pinet is a darn good quarantine binge-watching wine!
