My Top 5 Food Movies
If you know me well, you know how much I absolutely LOVE MOVIES. On a rainy weekend, I will watch five or more in a day. A few years ago, I featured my Top 5 wine movies, now let’s talk about my Top 5 food movies, which was even tougher. There are so many I love but I had to narrow it down!

There is no sincerer love than the love of food
George Bernard Shaw
If this was not number 1 on my list, I would have a bunch of friends calling and texting me to ask why not. I have probably seen it 20 or more times. Featuring the outstanding Meryl Streep who embodies the entire character of the phenomenal Julia Childs. Amy Adams plays Julie a downtrodden, fed up office worker who decides to make every recipe from the famous Joy of Cooking book in 365 days and blog every day about it and her love of Julia. Flitting between the past and the present and delighting us with the ‘joy of cooking’, this movie can bring warmth to even the coldest of hearts. Love love love this movie!
A love story of not only food but a Romeo and Juliet type romance, which has you rooting for food love and young love and for both to win! Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren) is a driven Michelin starred French restaurant owner looking for her next star. An Indian family opens up a traditional Indian restaurant directly across the street and drama and secret love ensues. Food meets love and love meets food and you are on the 100 foot journey with them.
Stanley Tucci – need I say more? I will watch anything with Stanley in it. This is an old movie (1996) filled with then unknown TV and movie stars, which makes it even more fun to watch. Primo (Tony Shalhoub) and Secondo (Stanley Tucci) are Italian immigrant brothers who own a restaurant in New Jersey. Fierce to the traditions and authenticity of Italian cooking they are resistant to the American ways, which leads to struggles. A famous artist is expected to dine at the restaurant so the brothers set out to create the ‘Big Night’. Watch and see how many now famous actors you can spot.
A magical movie where the star is chocolate. Filmed in a picturesque French village, Vianne played by Juliette Binoche opens up a tempting chocolate shop right across the street from a church. With the ability to read her customers and know what they need, she stirs things up with the villagers. An added ingredient of this movie is a traveler called Roux (think layered pastry) played by Johnny Depp. This is a delicious movie!
While not exactly about food, this movie has food as its back drop. The newest of all of my movies and one that has me giggling most of the way through it and laughing out loud through some scenes. Sasha played by the wonderful Ali Wong and Marcus Kim played by Randall Park are childhood best friends who drift apart after an awkward late-teen back of the car encounter. Fast forward to present day and Sasha is a very famous chef and restaurant owner. She moves back to San Francisco to open up her latest restaurant and reconnects with Marcus. Will sparks fly? You will have to watch and see. You do need to watch this movie just for Keanu Reeves who plays a parody of himself, which is brilliant!
