When I am single on Valentine’s Day I choose to ignore it or at least that is what I tell myself. I don’t feel down or dwell on the fact that the Boston dating scene for a woman of a certain age is seriously poop because what’s the point? Instead, I go about my usual business of working, ignoring the fact that I have a gym membership and perhaps drinking wine in the evening. Okay, I work and then drink wine and the gym membership doesn’t even get a thought.
The Wine Fridge
This past Valentine’s Day I decided to have a date with a reliable boyfriend, the Wine Fridge!! He never lets me down with his gifts of bubbles, dry whites and sumptuous reds. What else does a wine enthusiastic woman need?
Ideology Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Napa Valley
As often happens, I find wine I cannot remember purchasing so I can only assume it was gift. So, whoever gifted me the Ideology Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, I thank you for making my Valentine’s Day.
Always a sucker for the romantic comedy and of course torturing myself, I put the movie Valentine’s Day on and settled down to taste and truly enjoy this rich, beautiful Cab created by Ideology Cellars, while simultaneously laughing, weeping and reprimanding the movie that this could not happen in real life.
The 2013 Ideology Cabernet produced just 600 cases, one bottle of which I am happy landed in my wine fridge. “Hand harvested from their estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley and blended with a 25% Oakville Syrah.” It has a deep garnet color and tantalizing aromas of sweet overripe cherries, dark chocolate and burnt wood. The first sip is bitingly spicy on the tongue, which settles after a few sips into a smooth, dry and lingering drinkable wine. How drinkable this wine is can be as dangerous as the gold lion on the label with its quiet, predatory steps through the palate.
If you like fruity heady Cabs, this one is for you. At $40 it’s a little more treat worthy but I can’t think of any better way to celebrate me on Valentine’s Day!
