Fab Dish Friday: Tuna Tartare at Pizzeria Portofino, River North
Join me on Fridays to celebrate a dish of the week, featuring mouth-watering creations from Chicago restaurants and beyond.
It’s a random Sunday, and I was itching for a day out on the town. First stop: a lake walk. I didn’t quite hit five miles, but 4.7 is close enough. After a refreshing shower, it was time for a river walk with a specific destination in mind. The best thing about downtown Chicago in the summer? Besides everything, it’s the #chicagoriverwalk, with its fun riverside bars, fabulous eats, and the awe-inspired faces of tourists.
Today’s walk led me to Pizzeria Portofino, a place I’ve visited many, many times. I keep going back for their food, hospitality, and them being part of the Lettuce Entertainment Group is a plus for fabulous rewards.
Tuna Tartare
Today, let’s focus on one—well, two—of their dishes. First up: Tuna Tartare with Basil Pesto Aioli. Imagine the most delicate, sushi-grade tuna blended with pesto aioli, perched atop a thin layer of creamy avocado, all on soft bites of bread. It’s the best appetizer that almost qualifies as a full meal. Pair it with their spicy arugula, shaved fennel, and aged Parmesan, and bam—fabulous full meal.
While this is a #fabdishfriday, let’s not forget the other dishes: pizza, pasta, and salads, with my favorite being the Mediterranean. Looking forward to my next visit in TODAY!!
