Last month, I found myself spending time at Darioush Winery. Picture this: a Persian palace nestled in the heart of Wine Country. One late afternoon, Cynthia and I rolled up to what can only be described as a jaw-dropping palace. Seriously, this place looked like it was straight out of a history book, modeled after the ancient city of Persepolis. The owner calls it a temple dedicated to both wine and his Persian heritage. Intrigued? So were we.
We were whisked away to a private outdoor patio, ready to embark on a journey of exquisite wines and Persian delicacies.

Today, we’re focusing on their 2023 Signature Viognier. One sip and we were hooked. “We’ll take a bottle, maybe a case to go, please!” I’m not saying which choice I made, but as I’m writing this wine review at my home in Chicago, you can guess.
This delightful wine has aromas of stone fruits and mild citrus. This 100% Viognier is a total 180 from any crisp white I’ve enjoyed in years. At first sip, it’s super sharp on the tongue but settles into a lovely long, mild finish of peach and lychee.
