Last week my sister and 7-year old niece came for a visit from England. We started our week indulging in Afternoon Tea at Reserve in the Langham Hotel and ended their time with a full day of lunch at Stephanie’s on Newbury, dessert at Bar Boulud, early dinner at Eastern Standard and finishing a long but super fun day at Fenway Park for a Red Sox game.
The focus of this particular Fab Dish Friday is one of the best desserts I have tasted in a long time, which was at Bar Boulud. I have been there many times for dinner, more than my fair share of brunches and many late afternoon’s after shopping to sit at the bar enjoying a cocktail and small bite. So, we can safely say I am a fan of Bar Boulud and their menu offerings. The one thing I haven’t really indulged in is their desserts. I now know what I was missing – hello desserts!!
While I did honestly enjoy my dessert choice of a trio of ice cream – chocolate, espresso and dulce du late, my sister’s dessert choice of Tarte au Citron was almost rip the fork away from her hands and run out of the restaurant with her dessert, worthy. Does that explain it enough? Allow me to share more.
A buttery, melty shortbread crust is filled with the most tantalizing lemon custard, which you want to savor but you cant help but devour, paired with a flawless amaretto ice-cream. The dessert is topped with a pretty sugary artistic flair. This dessert is the bomb. I think the last time I actually quoted that sentence was in the late 90s! The Tarte au Citron is worthy of bringing back that quote and highly worthy of Fab Dish Friday!
Check out the desserts at Bar Boulud the next time you are in Back Bay!
