I had brunch plans this past sunny Sunday with my friend’s BosGuy and Sergio at Stella and couldn’t wait as I had been dreaming about their duck omelet, which I hoped was still on the menu – it was!!

The first thing you notice upon walking into Stella, located on Washington Street in the South End is how bright and summery the place looks.  White furniture and splashes of sunshine yellow creates a distinct openness to the space.  The floor to ceiling windows along the perimeter floods natural light into the space and adds a visible happiness to bruncher’s faces.  The place is noisy and loud but not in an uninviting way, quite the opposite. It feels fun and makes you smile.

We decided to sit outside on their patio given how perfect the weather was.  First order of business was a Bloody Mary for myself and BosGuy and bubbles for Sergio.  Having had one in the past at Stella, I knew how ridiculously spicy they can be so asked for a milder version and that is exactly what I got.  It was just wonderful and I might add a little strong.  A sweetness of juice with a mild bite of horseradish and a strong, fun kick of vodka.

Perfectly spiced (for me) Bloody Mary

With super looking brunch offerings of fruits, yogurt, bagels, omelets, colorful salads, steaks and pasta dishes, there really is something for everyone’s palate.   I, of course ended up with the shredded duck omelet with feta.  Served with a toasted English muffin and soft roasted potatoes, this dish was again absolutely worthy of my ravings.  Filled to bursting with shredded and full of flavor duck, which worked so well with creamy feta and omelet.  I couldn’t even begin to finish it but enjoyed every morsel I managed.

Duck Omelet / Duck Confit / Crumbled goat cheese / Mushrooms / Baby spinach – $14

BosGuy enjoyed the smoked salmon with toasted bagel and I have to say it was a colorful dish.  He was raving about it as equally as I did my omelet.

Smoked Salmon / Toasted bagel / Traditional Dressings / Baby Arugula & Tomato Salad – $12

Sergio was all about lunch with a huge juicy grilled burger and crispy fries.

Stella4

Grilled Burger / Caramelized Onion / Smoked Bacon / Cheddar Cheese / Crispy Fries – $14

This particular Sunday, service was unrushed, casual and easy-going, exactly as brunch should be.  We finished our morning with a coffee before a walk around the busy SoWa market.

A side of fresh fruit to make us feel just a tiny bit healthy

Stella is another great choice for weekend brunchers and also a great price point of $8-15.
