After a super fun happy hour after work at the Intercontinental outside bar, my friend Tricia and I needed some dinner but were undecided about where to go. We simply could not make up our minds!  Not really wanting to get cab anywhere, we knew we wanted to stay little bit more local to Seaport and after going around in circles of 20 different places we settled on a place neither of us has been to, which turned out to be a new higher-end pizza restaurant called Pastoral.

Located in the old Blue Wave space, I had heard a quiet buzz rippling through the neighborhood about this restaurant.  Open doors into the street led you into a spacious restaurant with a bar area and high-top seating at one end and the kitchen of at the other with lots of tables and booths in between.  The feel is very casual and welcoming.

Without reservation and seeing how busy they were, I was surprised we were seated immediately and in a great seat at the floor to ceiling open doors.  Our very lovely checkered shirt server immediately came over and offered us sparking or still water.

In addition to water of course we wanted wine so opted for an old favorite, the St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc.  A fantastic sharp, crisp wine with a nice citrus bite… perfect for a warm evening.

Offering small plates of Octopus with Pancetta, Stuffed Fried Olives and Ricotta Fritters as well as fresh unique salads all sounded really great, but as soon as we heard one of specials we decided that is what we wanted to start with.  Heirloom Tomatoes with Mozzarella and Basil. Startlingly fresh tomatoes, which just had an incredible sweetness to them blended with the mozzarella and the mild zing of basil made this simple dish spectacular.

Enjoying more of the wine and the vibe of the place, which was packed for a Friday night at 10 PM, we looked for what was next on the menu.  A list of pizzas from Asparagus, Fennel Sausage, Calamari and Duck all intrigued us but it had to be the Pepperoni Pizza to share.  This pizza had a serious crust topped with rich gooey cheese and large bites of salty pepperoni.  It made for the perfect marriage of salt and creamy cheese.  There wasn’t a single morsel left on our plate.

Throughout the evening our server remained attentive, friendly and completely on top of her game without being overbearing.  We both had a fun no-nonsense relaxing time and felt no pressure at any point to leave.

Pastoral is a great local artisan pizza restaurant with something a little more special than the norm.  I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it.
