Not sure if you know this but when you sign up for Mystery Meet you have no idea where you are going until 24 hours prior to the meeting.  I was very curious as to where last night’s event was going to be based on the clues, which I obviously didn’t get and the fact that is was a lot less expensive at just $25/person.  Hosted by Christine of the Discreet Hedonist, I was interested!

So, you can imagine my surprise when it was announced we were meeting outside on the Greenway to do a tour of nine food trucks.  Food Trucks?  Really, do they know who I am?  I don’t do Food Trucks!  I nearly cancelled. The thought of being outside for two hours in 50 degree rainy weather eating hot dogs is not my idea of fun.  Not even a little bit.  Where was I going to get my Cabernet?

In the end, I made a decision that I was going to do it.  What is the worst thing that could happen?  I bale at the first food truck and go and get a glass of wine?  Not a bad thought.  My friend, Rob, did bale – wuss.  Stacey joined me instead.

We met the rest of the group just passed the entrance to Chinatown, which is the start of what is now called The Rose Kennedy Greenway The Greenway is a beautiful long park that starts at Chinatown and goes all the way along Atlantic Ave to the North End.  Firstly, I was so taken aback at how much they have done to improve this area.  It really is quite stunning with amazing parks, fun light installations, water falls and sculpture and of course food trucks.

We started at our first truck, which was BBQ Smith to pick up a drink of Iced Tea and Lemonade.  Nice, refreshing, a bit cold for a chilly evening but still good.  It started to rain so I was feeling a little grumpy.  I bumped into two folks I know and really like from previous Mystery Meets so I started to feel a little better with hanging with both of them and Stacey.  We were also given some roasted almonds, which were really tasty.  This might not be bad at all?

Next stop was Clover Probably the most famous of the food trucks in Boston and I happen to know the creator behind it.  Organic vegetarian with fun and creative menu options.  I picked the rosemary fries, which were really good.  Stacey picked the roasted carrots, which I thought were interesting and quite nice but Stacey didn’t really like.  I actually didn’t finish to the whole thing!

Next was Lefty’s Silver Cart where we were treated to probably the best sandwich I have tasted in ages!  The Figment – Fig Jam, Goat Cheese & Truffled Dressed Greens on Baguette.  Yummy good.

What I was starting to realize was that none of these food trucks were hot dogs or burger carts!  Apparently, they have quite a strict application system for food trucks to be on the Greenway.  Great idea as it really asks for innovation and creativity and shakes things up a bit from what people are used to.

Next on the tour was Silk Road BBQ Here we were given a smorgasbord of tastings from Korean Carrot Salad to BBQ Pulled Pork with Pomegranate Sauce (award winning sauce) – very tasty and BBQ Chicken that I didn’t like as much.

Silk Road was accompanied by a really nice and warm, much needed, cup of coffee from Equal Exchange Free Range Café.

I was getting full!!!!!  Our next visit was to Grilled Cheese Nation where we received a toasted cheese sandwich and a little cup of delicious, albeit a little sweet, tomato soup.  Cheese sandwich and soup was perfect for this type of evening.  Oh so nice.

On to Beantown Franks ‘n Spuds and the only Hot Dog cart on the Greenway.  A bit of a break for me as all the Franks were beef but I heard people saying they were really good.I wasn’t sure I could actually eat any more and there were four my food trucks to go!!!!

Woo hoo – some dessert at the The Cupcake Cart I picked the Chocolate Cupcake with Vanilla Icing – oh so moist (I dont like that word) and absolutely scrumptious, but I just could not manage to eat the whole thing.  Stacey got the Vanilla Cupcake with Chocolate Icing – they were delicious.

What an amazingly fun tour.  This is something all Bostonians should do this summer.  Take a walk along the Greenway with your family and friends, enjoy the parks, the food, and the amazing sculptures and end the walk with a ride on the Carousel.  Boston really does have so much to offer and I, for one, am going exploring this Summer. There was one more food truck to visit and I had to decline as did Stacey.  Going Bananas was offering strawberry smoothies but I just could not do it. Only two trucks to go.  I really didn’t think I could eat anything more but we were offered kebabs of chicken on a stick with fresh lemon juice from Streatery I figured why not and they were worth the why not.   So simple and delicious.More walking, talking and realizing I was thoroughly enjoying myself on this tour.  I just wished the weather was a little friendlier to us.

I did also get my glass of wine at BarRumba in the InterContinental, along with Stacey, Frank and Adriana.  I could keep writing but this blog entry would go on forever.  Suffice to say, a very different and super fun evening.  I am glad I didn’t cancel.

Thank you to Stacey the Hand Model!
