I received a comment a while ago about my conservativeness with my wine ratings, given my sometimes effusive blogs describing the wine.  I thought that I would take a moment to share with you what my ratings mean.

If you read my post on My Philosophy on Writing the Negative Review I point out that I do not like to write incredibly negative restaurant reviews, that is not what I am about.  This also goes for wine.  If a wine is awful and I will never buy it again I will just not write about it.  With that said, I have no 1 Glass or 1.5 Glass ratings.  My wines ratings start at 2 Glasses…

2 Glass Rating

A solid everyday wine – good for the price. I’d drink it if there was nothing else around. If I spent more than $15 on it, I might be a tad miffed, but hey, wine is wine!

2.5 Glass Rating

A decent wine that’s worth about $15-25. I’d be satisfied and not embarrassed to open it at home with friends. It’s like that reliable friend who always shows up to the party.

3 Glass Rating

A very good wine that I’d proudly bring to a friend’s house for dinner. It’s the kind of wine that makes you think, “Hey, I’ve got taste!”

3.5 Glass Rating

A great wine that gets me pretty excited. I’d consider buying more and wouldn’t flinch at a higher price. This one’s like finding a $20 bill in your coat pocket – a delightful surprise!

4 Glass Rating

A fantastic wine that I’d rave about to anyone within earshot. I’d also try to stock up on it because it’s just that good. Think of it as the Beyoncé of wines.

4.5 Glasses

4.5 Glass Rating

A truly distinctive wine, which I’d shell out serious cash for and savor, whether solo or with friends. I might even get a bit selfish and keep it all to myself. Sorry, not sorry!

5 Glass Rating

Woohoo! (Yes, that’s a technical term.) This is it – the crème de la crème of wines. Think Opus One, and you’ll get my drift. If you haven’t tried it, start saving those pennies (around $450 worth), or better yet, find a generous friend. I’d probably never spend that much out of pocket, but if it’s on offer, I’m all in!

I hope this helps you understand my wine ratings better, and maybe even brings a smile to your face. Cheers!
