Fab Dish Friday: McVitie's Hobnob Biscuit
Join me on Fridays to celebrate a dish of the week, featuring mouth-watering creations from Chicago restaurants and beyond.

My trips back home to the UK follow a very specific order of priorities. First, I see my family—because, well, that’s the proper thing to do. Second, I catch up with friends, both the ones I grew up with and those who tolerated me in my young adult years. And third—some may argue this should be first—I indulge in all the British food I’ve been deprived of while stateside. A damn good Tikka Masala, mushy peas (don’t knock ‘em till you’ve tried ‘em), cheese and bacon on toast the way my mum used to make, and, of course, the glorious McVitie’s Hobnob.
Now, my American friends might be scratching their heads, wondering if I’ve lost the plot. “What’s a Hobnob, and why is Tracey getting emotional about a biscuit?” Let me explain.

In the UK, we have biscuits. Not the fluffy, buttery kind that comes with fried chicken—no, no. These are crunchy, dunkable delights meant to be enjoyed with a proper British cuppa (Tetley, obviously). And dunking is non-negotiable.
Enter the Hobnob. It’s a biscuit that starts with a glorious crumbly crunch of oaty deliciousness. Yes, it may leave a trail of crumbs in its wake, but that’s a small price to pay. There’s a touch of sweetness, just enough to keep you reaching for another. And the dunking—oh, the dunking. You dip it into your tea just long enough to soften it without it disintegrating entirely. But if it does fall in? No worries, that’s just a little surprise treat for later at the bottom of your cup.
Some might say I’m a little too passionate about a biscuit. I say those people have clearly never met a Hobnob.

British Comedian, Peter Kay talking about dunking biscuits – brilliant!
