I absolutely love love love Marvel Movies. I own many of them and often find myself putting them on when I stay in on a random weekend night. Action packed, amazing effects and the hero always wins. You do not have to be a lover of Marvel Comics (I am not) or indeed Marvel movies to absolutely fall in love with the compelling Summer Blockbuster that is The Avengers. This movie truly AWESOME!!!!
A charismatic cast of Robert Downey Jr, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Mark Ruffalo, Incredible Hulk, Chris Hemsworth, Thor, and Chris Evens, Captain America with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and of course Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and head of S.H.I.E.L.D. They are all brilliant together and play off each other perfectly with Joss Whedon’s sharp and witty well written script.
The movie starts with catching us all up on what happened at the end of each of the previous individual movies and we soon find out that Loki, Thor’s brother did not die as we were led to believe. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is on a path of godly egoism that is nothing but total destruction of anything in his way, and he is excellent as a truly evil want-to-be dictator. Loki has formed an allegiance with another world and has been tasked with finding the “Tesseract” (the cube energy source from Captain America) and currently held by S.H.I.E.L.D. With a weapon that can brainwash people, Loki heads for earth to find the “Tesseract” and the only thing standing in his way are the collection of Super Heroes and Spies led by Director Nick Fury.
As the movie unfolds you become invested in all of the characters growth and evolution and you start to root for each and everyone of them as individuals and as the potential “Avengers” – many sequels to come (I hope). The movie is totally compelling and keeps the audience engaged from the action, to the outstanding special effects and even the quieter moments as each superhero comes to terms with each other and with their role in saving the earth.
There is so much humor injected into the dialogue that it is hard to keep up. The packed theater I was in was laughing and cheering so loud that I know I will need to see this movie again to hear many of the sharp one-liners I am sure I missed. Even I got caught up in the high energy of the theater and clapped and cheered along with everyone else.
Action packed enough for the guys, plenty of eye candy for the girls and a great story line for those that need it. The Avengers is absolutely going on my buy list as soon as it comes to DVD. A must see for everyone.
And, stay until the end of the credits for an extra fun scene.
For a bit of fun my friend Stacey and I did a game of who would be a “Best Friend, Lover and Husband” from the characters of the movie. So, for me Best Friend would be Iron Man as I am sure I would be constantly laughing, but he does have a bit of a big ego and it would be all about him. Lover would be Thor – need I say more… hello have you seen his arms? Husband, of course none other than Captain America… Mr. Perfect. I will let Stacey share her choices. How about you?
Great review! It took me forever to find the time, but I finally had the chance to watch this movie over the weekend after getting it in the mail with my Blockbuster @Home package. I’ve heard so many great things about this movie too, that I admit I felt left out there for a little while, when it came to my coworkers at DISH constantly talking about it. I’m just glad I finally saw it, and although I thought the movie was awesome, I did honestly feel like the beginning was a bit boring. It definitely picked up towards the middle for me though, so I’m happy about that. The Avenger who I enjoyed the most I’d probably say was The Hulk. I had a great time watching him kick some butt lol! That part where he punched Thor had me laughing out loud too! I can only imagine what the second film has in store for us! 🙂
