Louis Jadot Macon-Villages Chardonnay 2023: The Everyday Queen of My Fridge

Let’s talk about everyday wine finds, shall we? For me, it’s the Louis Jadot Macon-Villages Chardonnay. She’s the reliable bestie of the wine aisle—always there when I need her, usually found chilling in the fridge or posing like a pageant queen on the shelf at Mariano’s. I’ve bumped into her at stores throughout my adult life, and now that I live in Chicago, we’ve rekindled our love affair on a regular basis.

“Why is this a fabulous find, Tracey?” Oh, I’m so glad you asked.

It’s fabulous because it is fabulous. Trust me—I’m an expert. Or at least an enthusiastic enthusiast, which is basically the same thing but with better glassware. I do have really fancy glassware, it’s kind of a problem 😂

After a wildly successful bout of retail therapy (my wallet wept, but my closet rejoiced), I popped into Mariano’s for a bottle of my old faithful. Not because my wine fridge isn’t stocked like a mini Bordeaux cave, but because this is the wine I wanted—the one I could uncork, pour generously, and enjoy financially guilt-free.

Let’s break it down.

Price: $15. Yes, fifteen whole dollars. If you live in Illinois, just go ahead and emotionally round down to $15 because of those taxes? Nonsense.

Taste: Honestly, it’s like drinking sunshine. On the nose, it’s clean and crisp with just a whisper of citrus and apricot. The first sip is light and breezy, with flavors of lemon, peach, and stone fruit. Best of all, there’s zero butteriness—because, as my loyal readers know, I like my French Chardonnays like I like my rom-coms: light, refreshing, and just dramatic enough to keep things interesting.

Speaking of rom-coms, this wine pairs perfectly with a throwback movie night. Queue up The Wedding Date with Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney (yes, that 2005 gem) and prepare to swoon at both the wine and the ridiculousness of a woman taking money out of her 401K to pay for a male escort to go to a wedding, only to fall in love. The film may be delightfully silly, but this Chardonnay? Consistently wonderful.

Notes from the winery

Louis Jadot Macon-Villages Chardonnay 2023 is made from 100% Chardonnay 3grapes in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy. No oak, all elegance. Thanks to the chalk and limestone soils, you get a lovely minerality and a fresh, layered profile that proves this wine is more than just a pretty label—it’s a whole vibe.

So there you have it. A wine that’s charming, crisp, and always up for a night in. Just like me. 😉

🧀 Food Pairing:

Pair this beauty with a simple roast chicken, a lemony shrimp pasta, or if you’re feeling low-maintenance and high-reward—go for a soft-ripened goat cheese with crackers. Bonus points if you’re wearing fuzzy socks and watching rom-coms while eating it.
