Hello old friends. Did you wonder if I had stopped buying shoes? Well, does a human need water to survive? That would be a no and yes. Have I been writing about them? That would be no ☹. Day job overload, family drama and just not having the inspiration to write has all played into my lack of blog postings, which I have missed dearly. That must change and let me start it with a surprising inspiration… a pair of Gucci loafers.
I do love my Gucci bags but to date do not own a pair of Gucci shoes, at least I don’t think I do? Oh my, wouldn’t that be bad if I did and I can’t remember! Well, as far as I know I don’t own a pair, so on a recent trip to Gucci for a little birthday gift to myself I was seduced by the shoes.
Over the years, I have seen many people wear the classic Gucci loafers, which is the signature shoe of the Gucci brand and while I thought they were really stylish, I always thought they were not for me. On this trip, I convinced myself I needed a pair.
I tried on the white leather horsebit loafers in both a full shoe and a mule. The first thing I noticed is these shoes are like putting buttery, soft slippers on. They feel like they belong to your feet immediately. The need to have them was very overwhelming and completely impulsive. I had to weigh up the fact that I do not spend big money on flat shoes as I only wear them to and from work and the wanting factor, which plays big into my shoe and bag purchasing. No-one ever sees me in flats at work so why pay the big price ticket. I actually think people at work may be shocked by my real height. I prefer to keep them fooled into believing I am 5.4 feet.
I brought the shoes on vacation with me and put them on and took them off every day for a week. I was honestly considering bringing them back given the ridiculous amount of money they cost and the fact that they could possibly just stay in my closet while I picked a pair of high heels over them. All my friends loved them and gradually I was convinced to wear them, which was on the almost 10-hour journey back to Boston. While I am sensible enough to know that no shoe is worth that amount of money, I do now absolutely LOVE them and the whole journey felt like I was wearing comfy bed socks with no heel rubbing or any sort of discomfort.
If you go for these shoes and like the mule look, you can make them a slip-on mule with a flexible back that you fold down. I am not a lover of this look as I feel that it ruins the look of the shoe but I can see the lure of doing this preppy look.
I must say, on my trip home I also felt very classy and a little preppy Boston jetsetter in them, which made me smile.
