The Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman has kept me captivated since I read the first book a couple of years ago. I literally could not wait for the subsequent installments, Each book (now 4) digs deeper with evolving the depth of its characters, making me love them more and more.
The cast of amateur sleuths, forming the Thursday Murder Club, defy the typical mold of protagonists. Yet, their endearing idiosyncrasies and diverse life experiences create an undeniable relatability and charm. While I hold my personal favorites close to my heart (Joyce and Bogdan), every character resonated with me in some way. The series’ unique charm lies in the fact that these central figures reside in the British retirement community of Cooper’s Chase, where the average age hovers around 75. It’s a world that feels so inviting and warm but with excitement, a place I’d love to retire to someday.
In essence, the “The Thursday Murder Club” books blend mystery with delightful humor and an abundance of heartfelt warmth. Whether you’re a fan of cozy mysteries or simply seeking a distinctive twist, these books are a must-read. Make space for the Thursday Murder Club series on your reading or listening list; you won’t be disappointed.
Something super exciting is that back in 2020, Steven Spielberg optioned the books for a movie and I, for one, cannot wait for the cast to be announced. All I am saying is Helen Mirren better be Elizabeth! I see no other choice!
This book is poignant, funny at times, and ultimately beautiful. It pushed me to question my own life decisions and give them some perspective.
I highly recommend this book for your book clubs. I promise you it will be a spirited conversation that will go on for hours.
I am excited to share the movie is being made by Netflix and YES, Helen Mirren is Elizabeth.
The four main members of the Thursday Murder Club are played by a crew of talented thespians whose names you might recognize. Mirren plays ex-spy Elizabeth, Kingsley is ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim, Brosnan portrays ex–union activist Ron, and Celia Imrie takes on the role of ex-nurse Joyce.
