About this time last year I was introduced to Blue Apron, which I have to say I am a big fan of. I love the perfectly portioned ingredients so there is no waste and also the fact that while I consider myself a decent cook it has really pushed me into being great cook. At least I think so.
For the past 4-5 months, I have been doing Blue Apron wines and I have to say I am quite impressed.
Each month brings a delivery of six half (500ml) bottles of wine and so far I have not been familiar with a single one, which ultimately brings with it some fun tastings. While I have not loved every single wine I have tasted, I have liked more than enough of them to warrant me to continue this relationship.
The price per bottle averages around $10/12 ($65.99/delivery) and what I love even more is that if I drink a whole bottle, it’s really only 2~ glasses, okay maybe 2.5~. It’s like middle of the week guilt free drinking :). Blue Apron does actually suggest the 500ml bottles are perfectly sized for two to share and are meant to complement your upcoming meal. Well, most of the time I am making me the meal for myself so that makes the wine for me also, right?
Each box arrives with (usually) three reds and three whites plus an envelope containing info cards giving you the overview of the wines in your delivery. These are great for those of us wanting to know more about what we are drinking, what foods they pair well with and even information on the winemaker and region.
Similar to the food deliveries, which I only do about once a month, it’s just as easy to skip a wine delivery, which I have done many times with no issues at all.
