One of the most popular social interest groups we have at my office is our Wine Club. Since its inception, once a month on a Friday at 5pm our office lounge fills with eager colleagues ready for the weekend to start with a tasting of wines presented by our own colleagues. Last Friday we enjoyed South African wines.
At the end of each Wine Club we raffle off a couple of the bottles and on this occasion, I won the Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc 2016.
I often find Chenin Blancs too fruit and overly acidic, however this one surprised me with mild and soft aromas of peach, apricot and just a hint of citrus. The first sip brings abundant but not overpowering tastes of stone fruit such as apricot and peach and a fun zing of grapefruit on the tongue. This wine is made for humid days, the ones that make your hair frizz and no matter how much you straighten it the humidity always wins. What I am trying to say is that you need to give in to the splendor of this simple and quite lovely wine. Even better this wine as a great price of just $15.
Pair this wine with a humid day sat on your porch. Alternatively, enjoy on a cold Boston evening binge-watching The Fall on Netflix.
My rating…
Not one of my favorite wines. I prefer a Sancerre or Sauvignon Blanc, but it seems like a good wine to have on hand if you’re inviting people over.
